Caramel apples are made by mixing powdered sugar with water, and are sometimes served with a chocolate frosting, according to National Geographic.
The recipe is a bit tricky, however.
The method varies depending on the type of caramel you’re using.
Here’s how to make a caramel apple cake at Home Depot.
Add 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar to a large bowl.
Add water to the sugar mixture and stir until the sugar is dissolved.
Add the eggs, one at a time, one by one, until the mixture is thoroughly combined.
Add cornstarch and stir for a few seconds.
Add flour and mix thoroughly.
Add cocoa powder and mix.
Add eggs one at time, mixing well after each addition.
Add vanilla extract and mix well.
Stir in confectioners’ sugar and stir to combine.
Add chocolate chips and mix, scraping down the sides of the bowl to prevent the batter from sticking to the sides.
Pour the batter into greased baking sheets.
Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove the cakes from the oven and serve immediately.
Recipe Notes This recipe requires a large pot.
It can be made in the microwave or on the stovetop.
To prevent the cake from sticking when the pan is cold, use a spatula to spread the batter in the pan, rather than pushing it in.
You can also make this cake in a bowl at a higher temperature.
You’ll want to cook the cake in the refrigerator for several hours, or overnight.
